Asaf Zakay
Designer and Glass Artist

Born in Israel, Asaf moved to Australia 7 years ago with the idea of selling glass stars. Little did he know the influence that sacred geometry would have on his entire series of works. “I have always had a love and fascination for creating and making arts works with a variety of materials and the fact that this is what I do on a full time basis is quite amazing! Like living the dream really.”

Each glass sculpture Asaf handcrafts creates a fascinating play of light and shadow during the day , but glows like a lantern at night. His latest Luminary light sculpture designs throw a new light on any space they inhabit. Asaf said, ‘A light is like a companion, you live with it , you build a relationship. It's much more than a source of light to me.’

When he is not in his Byron Bay studio and Gallery you will most likely find him surfing at one of the glorious beaches just around the corner from where he lives, with wife and business partner, Samaya.

After completing a Bachelor of Education in Visual Arts at Melbourne University Samaya travelled overseas for 12 years teaching visual arts, running Galleries, growing sun dried tomatoes and of course in her spare time creating her own art works.

She is now dedicated and passionate about spreading the beauty of Zakay Glass Creations around the world and is the driving force of the marketing team.

Creating at the studio in Byron Bay, Roy has been under the guidance and watchful eye of master craftsman, Asaf Zakay for the last few years. He is an invaluable part of the team who works with the patience, a steady hand and the desire to create finished art works to the highest standard.
